Blog prompt for Thursday May 26th

MLK's "Letter from Birmingham Jail" is addressed to a group of priests and reverends in Birmingham, meaning they are the explicit audience of the letter. But who else was MLK writing to? Why was he writing to them? And if there was an implicit audience, why would he address his letter to a specific group of people instead of to everyone he wanted to read it?

Blog for Thursday

Sorry for the late post. For tomorrow night, I would just like you to write something about information technology or journalism that you are really itching to get out there. I know you all have opinions about how technology is affecting our lives . . . lets hear it!

Blog Prompt

Hi Class,

Your rough drafts for the next essay are due on Thursday, so you need to use the weekend to start thinking about your essay. Since we are finishing the readings this weekend, you will have plenty of ideas to inform your ideas and to start an outline. So here are your prompts (pick ONLY ONE):

1) Are information technologies like Google and Wikipedia helping us to become more informed citizens or actually making us lazier and dumber?

2) Is the internet creating an environment of misinformation or is it giving us access to a more diverse range of views and information?

By Tuesday, you need to have your thesis statement written as well as an outline. See you then.

Weekend Blog

Hi Class,

For the weekend, I want you to start thinking about the benefits and downfalls to things like Google, Facebook, and Wikipedia. What effects do these technologies have on traditional institutions like libraries, books (yes, the things with a cover and actual pages), and the way we interact?

Have a great weekend!
